| The Harvest has once again come to Jane’s village. The last time they came, they burned houses and raped women before making off with the most promising of the village girls. It was useless to hide. Two girls who had hidden the last time were hunted down like animals and dragged off just the same. Jane has done her best not to attract the attention of the Harvest guard. She has no wish to be a sex slave to the Fae, but the leader notices her and takes her anyway. She is apparently fated to be the mate of their king, willing or unwilling. As the journey progresses, despite her escape attempts, she falls in love with the commander; if only he was the one she is destined to marry.
This story of love between the Fae and humans is handled in a unique way. The Fae are unable to sire female children, so they must find their mates among the human race. This really should not be a hardship; the peasant women could improve their lives immensely by joining with a Fae man, but the brutal Harvest makes the women fear. Ryn is a strong and very appealing alpha male, and Jane is equally strong with a forthright character that makes her instantly likeable and very unlike the other women kidnapped with her. The story line never lags and there are a few plot twists that keep the reader interested. I recommend this story to anyone who likes a strong heroine as well as an alpha hero.
