Imogen is in Charlotte, NC, working on her graduate degree. Through her boss, she meets race car driver Ty McCordle. She is attracted to Ty but knows he goes for the women with more physical attributes than mental. When she decides on a subject for her thesis, Ty is the perfect male to help her. When her attraction to Ty negates using him as a test subject, her thesis subject matter evolves just as their relationship evolves.

Erin McCarthy has another hit with Hard and Fast, the second book in her stock car racing series. There is excellent character development, drama, humor, and sizzling sexual tension. The plot moves along seamlessly with each scene flowing smoothly. Imogen’s personality was my favorite – intensely intelligent yet very likable with her inquisitiveness, candor and honesty. Ty was a little bit harder to like, but only because in the beginning his character is a bit of a womanizer who takes full advantage of the perks of being a race car driver. As you get to know him though, you realize he’s much more than what is shown on the surface. I loved how the romance was intense and the heroine didn’t play any head games with the hero – she said what she was thinking without worrying about the consequences. The author deals with a subject matter that could be very sensitive yet it is eventually handled with openness and frankness that the reader appreciates because it doesn’t take away from the romance. The love scenes between Ty and Imogen are intensely romantic and seductive. As an added bonus, the reader gets glimpses of the ongoing relationship between Imogen’s friend, Suzanne, and her ex-husband, Ryder. I’m hoping their story will be coming soon. Hard and Fast is an excellent romance that I give the highest recommendation!
