| Olivia, a woman haunted by the abuse of her
stepfather, is forced to return to the house of her
nightmares his death. He left her the house in his
will. She cares nothing for the house, but returns
for a letter from her real father, who died when she
was six. She was supposed to have been given the
letter when she was twelve, but the tragic death of
her little sister changed her life forever. It was
then that her mother retreated into her own world,
leaving her to the abuse of Walter. Olivia arrives at
the house to find that her childhood love, Tucker, is
living in the house, and under the impression that he
owns it. The resolve to sort out the situation, and a
series of violent storms forces Olivia to stay in the
house she hates with Tucker. Tucker’s job as a Deputy
Sheriff takes him out of the house frequently,
especially during the emergency caused by the storm.
Olivia sees the dead Walter in the house and on the
property. Of course, since Walter is dead, Tucker
doesn’t believe her, until she is attacked. Tucker
also faces an uphill battle to win Olivia’s love and
trust.
This novel is gripping from beginning to end, the non stop action is almost exhausting. Walter is appropriately evil and the Town Fathers greedy. Olivia and Tucker’s romance is well written and Olivia’s abuse is only hinted at, never described too graphically. Overall, the story is very suspenseful and entertaining.
