Jack wondered why he had listened to his friends when they told him that this carnival was creepy. He used to terrorize little kids and steal their candy and at the age of thirty, Jack did not think he could be scared easily. Now he was at the carnival and it was deserted, except for a couple making out. Jack often wondered why the drop-dead gorgeous women paired up with ugly as sin men. Hell, he was better looking than the dude with her! Relationships with women were short and sweet, as they could never put up with him for long. Jack wanted the perfect woman that he could brag to his friends about, a woman so stunning that she could make his friends green with envy! As Jack wandered around the carnival, he heard a seductive voice moaning his name and when he looked there was a fortuneteller's tent that he had not noticed before. Jack entered the tent. As he made his way through the beaded curtain there was a maze that darkened with every step he took. A voice told him to come closer and as he stepped closer he saw a bronze naked beauty with a veil covering her face. She said that her name was Mina, that she could tell him what he wanted to hear. Hell, with a body like hers all Jack could think of was sliding into her warmth. She told him to look at the mirror that was between her legs to see his one true love. Jack looked into the mirror but only saw his own reflection and then Mina told him to look closer....

Ann Cory writes a haunting story about two people that face a brutal moment of truth. It is sweet yet touching and many of us should do this. To say anything more would give the story away and I am humbled with this writing.
