| Lyssa believes herself to be a null, a Warden, or wizard, unable to perform magic. Not the best news in the world to Hawk, a Warrior who, after battling a group of demons, is in need of a Warden's ability to heal. Against her better judgment, knowing she has nothing to offer, Lyssa agrees to try and help him, only to find she needs Hawk's help a hell of a lot more than he needs hers.
Mina Carter has quickly become one of my favourite writers of paranormal novellas. Her writing is crisp, the plot just right for the length of the piece, her world building spot on. I can't tire of the dialogue, slightly snarky humour and thoroughly lovable characters. Hawk is a man used to doing battle alone, seeking out others only when necessary. Lyssa is an outcast, resigned to being powerless in every sense of the word. When they come together spells and barbs fly, and the heat goes through the roof, much to their surprise and our delight. The sex scene is hot, and very much necessary for the story. Do you get the feeling I completely and utterly enjoyed this book? If you did, then you're right. If I had a quibble it would be that an ability Hawk exhibited early in the piece seemed to disappear later on, but it in no way diminished my delight. As usual, I'll be on the lookout for more of Ms. Carter's books.
