Arlin is young, single, free-spirited, and he likes it that way. Being pack alpha is not an aspiration. He's not looking forward to protecting the veterinarian either. Even if Ruth is compassionate enough to help the pack, she's as frigid as an icebox. So, how can she make any man drool as if starved? Ruth's push-me/pull-me attitude wears on Arlin's nerves -- and his senses. Especially since she smells like sex. To Ruth, Arlin is a sexy kid and nothing more, but she must trust him with her life -- and her secrets. It'd be easier to remain cold, but around him, she feels like an animal.

Heal is about a woman with a secret. A secret that Ruth's blocked in order to cope. While the concept is tried, the story's set up and Ruth's way of dealing with her past are unique. Ruth and Arlin's cougar-type relationship is perplexing, as Ruth's intentions do not lean that way. Yet, who's in charge as the story progresses is clear. I found the transitions rough, though. More than once, I had to go back and reread a section, and I didn't understand the opening until the story's end. However, the characters were strong, their motivations true, including pack dynamics. I would've like to see Ruth enabling herself to Heal better elaborated. This would've worked if the story were longer. Strong points are the suspense, the relationships, and the sexual dynamics. Overall, if you're into sexy, hot Were's, Heal may interest you.
