Bonnie Verdugo has one goal in her life - to be a doctor. She is an EMT right now but she is willing to do whatever it takes to make her goal a reality. But when Bonnie goes out hiking alone she has a bad fall and breaks her ankle. Bonnie has to crawl to the highway and flag down a car to take her to the hospital. At the hospital she finds out it is a bad break and she will need surgery to repair the damage. When she finds out that Dr. Jerry Bertini will be doing the surgery she is not at all thrilled. As a student nurse she has worked with him a few times. He may be gorgeous but he was also arrogant and demanding, she hated every bone in his good-looking body.

Jerry Bertini is the best orthopedic doctor in the region. He is also rich, good looking, and has a body to die for. He grew up in a successful family of Lawyers, so it was a big disappointment to his family when he wanted to be a doctor. Every nurse at the hospital is crazy about Dr. Bertini except Bonnie. She is the only one that doesn’t openly flirt with him or bow to his demands. When Bonnie needs someone to care for her after her surgery he comes up with the perfect solution, he would take her home with him.

Bonnie is left with no choice but to go home with Jerry. While Bonnie is there she meets his teenage daughter Jennifer, who is trying desperately to get her dad’s attention. At first Bonnie is a challenge to him, but as they spends more and more time together his feeling become much more. Can Jerry convince Bonnie that a relationship with him doesn’t mean giving up her dreams?

Healing hearts is a great story about life, family, and acceptance. I loved the balance between the characters, even though he was the doctor and she was only an EMT he still learned from her. Gwynn Morgan has done an awesome job in creating a story that will definitely be going on my keeper shelf.
