| Dr. Jaci Sinclair was the local veterinarian in the small town of Yellow Rose, Texas. She was single, extremely involved in the local church, and foster parent to 13-year-old Billy. So far, it wasn’t working out too well. She didn’t, however, need the town’s newest citizen, Hunter Grant, to tell her how to discipline him. They met when she came to his newly-acquired Lucky Longhorn ranch to check his cattle. She brought the sullen young boy with her.
Both Jaci and Hunter had devastation in their individual pasts. Neither was looking for a mate—or even a special friend, for that matter. Hunter formerly worked for the FBI; his wife and seven-year-old son were killed in a hold-up. He wasn’t able to negotiate their release. He gave up on God and life when that happened two years ago. Jaci had been a foster child from the age of ten. She ended up devastated with a pregnancy at the age of 15. She had to give up her little girl for adoption. She trusted God for everything else but she knew He would not be able to forgive that particular sin in her past. Ms. Tamelia Tumlin has written an incredibly poignant book about two seemingly shattered lives and how they were pulled together in spite of their resolve to stand alone. She has taken two broken lives and, through God’s grace and power, shown how He can, and does, make a way for His children to find forgiveness. She does this by stating facts, but she does not do it in a preachy way. All would enjoy this as a wholesome book to be read by any/all. Her characters are strong, guided and well positioned in their communities. They are strong-willed, but yet tender and willing to reach out to others. This is so typical of a small-town attitude. This does not happen, though, without conflicts. Tumlin has a unique way of introducing conflict which created edginess throughout the storyline. I can guarantee that you will love this story as did I. Great job, Ms. Tumlin!
