Kerstin is a healer, although most call her the Witch of Moere. She's betrothed to a man she loves, but is suddenly ripped from him and forced to marry Jonas, the Beast of Hawkscliffe, her family's sworn enemy. She struggles to remain true to her betrothed even after marriage to Jonas, but quickly finds herself becoming more and more drawn to his touch.

Jonas, a man of honor, does as the king commands of him. For peace, he marries the Witch of Moere, even though she murdered his older brother. He has sworn to himself to withstand her beauty and to never fall under her spell. But the moment he weds her, he's lost. He wants her physically but longs for her to heal his scarred heart and soul. Can he forgive the past and love the Witch of Moere before it's to late?

Leigh Bale has written probably one of the best historical stories. She leads the reader along the road from the ultimate pain of losing the one you love for duty to war and betrayal. I loved Jonas and Kerstin from the very beginning, the war between them was at times so amusing and at other times I wanted to strangle them both. She writes both characters as strong, honorable people who have had to deal with so much in their lives and that lets the past rule their future. She truly carries the reader back in time, to when a woman was expected to do as her man says at all cost and healers were feared as witches. This was an action packed story, with so much true emotion, love, hate, betrayal, war and fear. I would highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a good historical, because this was one of the best. Great Job!
