| Imari is a telepath who’s found mates for all of his siblings but can’t seem to find his own. Joric di Ork is accused of a vicious crime against a child and Imari wants to ensure that he gets a fair trial. He decides to defend the man himself because he can‘t believe he did the deed. The meeting of the nine princes and Imari in one place seems to set them up for a well planned attack by a true criminal with no morals. He and Prince Casvian find themselves falling in love while trying to defeat a man Cas knows all too well.
Laura Bacchi builds a great romance with edge of your seat suspense. Imari is well depicted as a man with a heart as well as a realistic view of the future of his world. Cas is similar to Imari in his forward thinking and involvement in helping his people. His goodness often takes second place to the fact that he was related to Harbren, the perpetrator of evil. The painful death of a child for which Joric is imprisoned is really nasty but shows the kind of villain the author is writing about. If that isn’t enough, he blows off the hands of his younger brother just for fun. Ms.. Bacchi does such a job showing the bad guy’s evil deeds it leads me to think his demise isn’t bad enough. Ms. Bacchi has crafted a suspense that keeps its edge even when the villain is revealed. This is a great read.
