Taken as a traditional romance, Heart of Stone would very likely be considered a fair story. Instead, after reading it a second time around, I felt like I was reading a short story in the style of a fairy tale, but with a far more personal touch. I enjoyed it, partly because it was different from other romances. Heart of Stone wasn't long enough to give a lot of characterization to either character, or much realism to the romance, but the style and certain little touches made the romance memorable and sweet. Even the searing lovemaking had a ring of tenderness and caring. It was worth reading Heart of Stone a second time to understand the style and enjoy it as it was.
