| Dr. Raven Kyrus, Chief of Transplant Surgery at the University of New Mexico Hopsital, is female, thirty-two and considered too young by many of the elder practioners to be holding such a prestigious title let alone being considered for medical director.
The night of the announcement banquet, Raven is joined at her table by an extremely handsome man she has never seen before. His attire indicates he might be a visiting physcian in search of a position, and she thinks perhaps it might be the one she will soon be vacating. Imagine her surprise and disappointment when he, Dr. Lucas Drake, stands and acknowledges the appointment she was so sure to receive. Raven leaves the auditorium, angry to have been passed over for the promotion, but determined to concentrate on her current young patient who is badly in need of a new heart. Jose's organs are failing and a transplant is his only chance to survive. In the back of Dr. Kyrus' mind, she's fighting an attraction to her new boss, but when an organ suddenly becomes available, Raven is appalled to find herself locked in a battle with Dr. Drake about who will undergo the lifesaving surgery. How can he be so alluring yet so wrong in his decision? Author, Brenda Schetnan, has penned a very entertaining read in HEART OF THE MATTER. Her medical romance has incredibly precise terminology which sets the scene and moves you into the hospital hallways and operating room with ease. Add to the story the handsome hero, a little antagonism, some well-justified conflict and Ms. Schetnan proves that she is an author you'll want to watch for in future releases.
