In what seems to be a freaky storm surrounding her plane Emma McDaniel hits her head in 1944 and wakes up in 2006. The kindness and attraction she feels from a pilot, Captain Tom Wells, is comforting but disconcerting. She's on the plane to pick up the remains of her husband who died in a London air raid during WW II, is not looking for romance.

Barbara Goodwin has written a suspense and romance that really flies for me!! I appreciate Emma's character. Her story is so well built from a woman who was married for thirty years to a cold fish husband finding a loving man. Even with the negatives of people trying to hurt her at every turn because they're angry at Tom she shows a strength and ingenuity that isn't always common in fiction. Tom loves her but takes a long time to respect her enough to share his secrets, almost losing her because of his fear of alienating her.

The thought of bad guys wanting to go back in time with technology to help Hitler win the war is scary. Ms. Goodwin involves us emotionally with this tale. Tom's old friend Virgil from the OSS who's now eighty is a feisty guy. Donny, who was a child enjoying Emma's chocolate chip cookies when she was thrown into the future, is great. Tom's ex wife and daughter are quite well done. Imagine a man who's been paying alimony for twenty-eight years being hounded every day for more money. Their jealousy and tantrums are unreasonable and weird but do add to the story and our understanding of both Tom and Emma.

There's a lot of adversity to deal with but the author slowly but surely works them through all of it in this well built tale. This is a great read with with well-done dialogue from first page to last.
