Mary Quinn testified against her father, a mob kingpin in Las Vegas. He was convicted of first degree murder. Five years later, benefiting from the Witness Protection Program, she's Molly Schlofeld , working in a downtown Seattle floral shop. She's safe, with close friend Pattie and Pattie's 14-year-old daughter Tara as friends.

Now Molly's father is dead, and his old mistress Jazmine Dougherty and son Joe are out to get Molly. Joe was her first and only boyfriend, satisfying her physical needs, but degrading her and calling her a slut. He has seriously corrupted her sense of worth in the romance department.

Dr. Dave Westfield has spent the last eight buried in his work. A pregnant teen crashed into his car, killing his young son and leaving him with prosthetic legs. His wife left him after the accident, repelled by his wrecked body. He works with teenaged girls, trying to keep them from unwanted pregnancies and save them from the fate that killed the driver of that other car. Dave has pretty much ruled sex and romance out of his legless life.

Dave and Molly are both keeping secrets. But the attraction is overpowering. These are interesting characters, in unusual but believable circumstances. The WITSEC agent on Molly's case is nearing retirement. He regards Molly as a daughter and twill do anything to protect her. He is a strong and truly likable character as well.

Author Karella has a knack for names: The Green Thumb Flower Shop and Addictions Coffee House. She is perhaps a bit too preachy on the subject of teenaged girls and sex, but her story is engaging and very readable.
