Makenna James has had a bad day at work and only wants to go home and relax. She thinks she finely gets a break when a good Samaritan holds the elevator for her. Too bad the power goes out. Stuck in a dark elevator is the last thing Caden Grayson needs. A tragic past not only left him claustrophobic, but also afraid to let others see the real him. Can Makenna help Caden with his fears? What happens when two complete strangers find themselves stuck in the dark? do they find a common bond that can last or do they part ways when the lights come on?

Hearts in Darkness is a very touching story about two people who find themselves in a situation that is made worse by phobias. If you have ever had a phobia, you can relate to Caden Grayson in this story. The author did a great job of not only adding his phobia into the story but also describing his attacks as they happen. The plot is one that most anyone living or working in buildings with older elevators could see happen. Even though there was only two characters in the story it was very entertaining and kept me guessing what was going to happen next.

Caden was portrayed very well. You could feel that he was a strong person to have survived his past and become the person he is. Makenna was also a strong person and was ready for anything. Both characters completed each other and showed that love is not always about looks, but what is on the inside. I look forward to reading more my this author. She did great job of making me feel close to the characters.
