| Bethany Webb has a very full life, building her dream
equestrian facility and three day eventing, when
everything comes to a crashing halt. She suffers an
accident during a competition, resulting in the death
of her beloved horse and the loss of the use of her
legs. While she is recovering, one of the investors
in the building project tries to take over. Someone
is also apparently trying to sabotage the project, and
even the weather doesn’t cooperate when a tornado
destroys the nearly finished dressage barn. Bethany
is not a quitter and she wants to ride again
desperately. She hears of a physical therapist who
specializes in her kind of injury and arranges to see
him. He turns out to be a well-known event rider and
they are very attracted to each other. Unfortunately,
each has psychological issues that make their romance
anything but smooth, yet each of them is determined
not to give up on something so worthwhile.
Bethany is a very strong character, with a determination to get better. Connor is likable, but a little wishy-washy in the beginning; it is interesting to watch him grow a spine as the story goes one. The subplots of Lucy and Jamie’s romance, the teenage Tip’s character growth, and Tim Trent and his power grabbing add dimension to the story. This is an uplifting tale with a rich equestrian background. The author obviously knows a lot about the subject, and her descriptions of the horse world are very vivid, you can almost smell the horses.
