| This story is about Barrett, a vampire known as the "Highwayman", and his human lover, Nathaniel. Barrett had hoped for love for a creature such as himself but was surprised it existed for him when he met Nathaniel. Barrett is being hunted by a vampire hunter named Zeke. Barrett is a killer, thief, and gambler. Barrett's survival depends on kill or be killed. He steals from the rich in order to put enough money away to secure a future for him and Nathaniel somewhere else. Barrett has one last job and then they can do whatever they please. Nathaniel fears for Barrett's safety. Barrett has been pretty open about his relationship with Nathaniel and Nathaniel fears the vampire hunters will find him and kill him.
Barrett and Nathaniel are rich, full characters beautifully written by Ms. Okati. I am a big fan of Ms. Okati's books. The thing I enjoy most about her stories is the intensity she gives the sexual hunger aspects of the primary relationship in the story. She does it again here with Barrett and Nathaniel. It makes the relationship much more erotic with this intensity added to the mix. Barrett is an extraordinary creature. Even for a vampire he really stands out. The love between Barrett and Nathaniel is very intense. I loved this book and recommend it to everyone.
