| What an incredible story! Ms. Jana Richards’ Her Best Man is a well-written, fast-paced book with both heartache and exhilarating exploration of real love. Sarah Stevens not only is smothered by her parents’ divorce and her mother’s relocation into her daughter’s apartment, but in the middle of the “I do’s” of her wedding, her fiancé Brad Marshall tells her he just cannot marry her! Devastation is compounded when her mother is so concerned about what her friends will think about the aborted wedding that she invites all her “friends” back to Sarah’s apartment to console her (regardless of how Sarah craves solitude).
Since Sarah’s mother is determined to dominate her entire life and keep her apartment full of people to ensure that Sarah does not have time to mourn, Sarah decided to take the honeymoon cruise to get away for a while! Brad decided to send his brother, Will, in his place, hoping to break his writer’s block. Imagine the complications when the two of them show up in the honeymoon suite and are mistaken for the newlyweds!! Even though Sarah and Will had only met the day before the wedding, they work out a plan to inhabit the cabin and still not bother each other. Their friendship developed quickly until Brad called Will and told him that he had made a mistake and wanted to make up with Sarah. This caused Will to struggle to maintain a casualness to their blossoming relationship to ensure that he did not cause an extra breech in the fledging relationship of Brad and Sarah. I absolutely loved this book. I, truthfully, read throughout the night because I just could not put it down. The facts that Sarah has no backbone when it comes to standing up for herself and Will’s tendency to wander from one place to another and never settle down, hampered their relationship; however, that the two individuals complement each other is obvious. This is a big part of the plot of the story and encourages the reader to continue to champion the couple. I wholeheartedly recommend this winner!
