Lady Tessa Woodward is running for her life and only escapes the would-be kidnappers because Captain Jeremy Williams rescues her. Since here parents' death two years earlier, she's been her evil uncle's ward, and fully believes he's behind the danger she's in. Captain Williams believe she's a woman of the streets, but soon realizes she is truly a lady and vows to help her. He puts her on his ship and takes her to England and obtains a hotel room for her. But the danger isn't over and when the kidnappers nearly get her again, he brings her to his home. He goes to his superior, who assigns him and another Navy man the task of rooting out those responsible for the white slavery ring. They are successful, but Lady Woodward, believing the Captain doesn't love her, has already gone to a plantation in the West Indies that she's been given. Will they find their way back to each other?

This beautifully written story held my attention from the first word to the last. The author has drawn characters we grow to love as we read, along with those we must hate. Lady Woodward is a truly spunky and lovable character. We root for her even when her spunkiness and stubbornness takes her in the wrong direction, and keep our fingers crossed that the Captain will find and rescue her. He is also wonderfully depicted and easy to fall in love with. He changes along the way from a determined bachelor of the sea to a man fully in love with his woman. The author describes both scenes and emotions in a wonderful way, putting the reader in the scene and in the hearts of the characters.

I loved this book and intend to read the others in the series, the Men of the Sea Series.
