| Heroes Unwrapped is an excellent anthology of 7 short stories about service members through several different wars. These stories are fast-paced, easily-read, very entertaining tales of both enlisted and officers whose lives are structured by their mobilization. During this time in our world of uproar, war, and civil unrest, these tales are especially poignant. The fact that the proceeds will benefit SOS America, Inc. which will benefit injured veterans is just phenomenal. I believe that, even though it should be our “duty” to read them from the support angle, you will be thrilled to read (and keep) this book in your personal library for a quick pick-me-up at any time. You will love these stories!
Under the Covers by Cat Johnson is an amazing story of a photo journalist, Katherine Jorgenson, doing a recruitment campaign for Uncle Sam. Her subject is a former underwear model, B.B. Dalton, Special Operations, U.S. Navy. He has spent his career trying to live down his reputation as a model. In the story Rules of Engagement, Carole Madison is upset when her brother, Lance Corporal, USMC, brings a buddy, SSgt Michael O’Shea home with him for Christmas. The relationship between Fox News correspondent Teri Tucker and Major Lee Jackson, who is known as Baghdad Bad Boy, is an emotional account of perception and discernment. For the reader who likes heated M/M relationships, Gift Exchange addresses the issue of forbidden same sex connections. The anthology also has a story, The World She Wants, which explored the world of 2272 and how the military of that day could, and possibly will, function. Captain Phillip Avery, a wounded Marine Unit Commander, came home to Maine to find his home occupied by a house sitter his mother had hired while she was on vacation in Florida. The novel, A Hero’s Welcome, brings together a woman who has nowhere else to go with a man who doesn’t want to be alone. And last, but definitely not least, Come A’Courtin’ reunites a soldier and the woman he has loved for years. The problem is, she has promised to marry another man!
