Rowena is a sword sworn, more than able to take care of herself and others. She’s been sent on a mission to retrieve a far seer that has been captured by a brutal man, intent upon destruction. She’s on her way out, when she’s met by a band of mercenaries’ intent upon stopping her. They don’t really understand what she can do with her sword, but she’ more than willing to give them a taste. Then her long lost love Kael shows up in the middle of it all and ruins everything. The last time she’d seen him was over twelve years ago, and she’s never forgiven him for not seeking her out since. Now he expects to make her fall for him again, but she knows there is no way that will happen, right?

The Gloaming: Heron’s Call started out well, but I thought Rowena gave in WAY to quick to Kael’s persuasions. I was a little annoyed by that, I thought it should have been a bit harder for Kael to get her to let him in. After all, he didn’t try to get her for 12 years, and actually listened to his parents about waiting until she was sworn in so he wouldn’t take a chance and get killed. I mean, it’s not a normal thing for a man to do in a romance story. While there were extenuating circumstances for the first 9 years, the rest I didn’t see the excuse for. However; it was more that she forgave him so quickly and it didn’t fit with the type of woman she was supposed to be that bothered me the most. For the strong woman she is, able to take care of herself, tough emotionally, and more than capable of dishing out trouble, it didn’t fit. Kael came across as a good man, but not a strong enough personality for Rowena. Over all though, there is a lot of action, adventure and passion in this story and it will certainly keep you entertained.
