| It’s been four months since Ana Briggs’ husband, John, passed away from cancer. She has been running her business and saving her home without anyone’s help. When a man calls and needs her to accompany him on an extend trip into the mountains she is hesitant to accept, but she needs the money.
Devin Rourke is a man on a mission. He has set out to find out who killed his best friend, and all the clues lead to John Briggs- Ana’s dead husband. He needs Ana, not just to accompany him, but also so that he can get the answers he seeks. And it just might get them both killed. Someone is up on the mountain and doesn’t want the two of them returning home alive. What follows is a life or death struggle and Ana's realization that she may not have known her husband as well as she thought. This is a story about Ana’s sexual awakening and Devin’s emotional one. Ms. Harper did a wonderful job incorporating all the internal struggles that Ana and Devin deal with. Ana grew up in a repressive household and has never fully seen herself as a woman. Devin takes all the blame for everything in his life squarely on his shoulders, even childish mistakes. They help each other by offering what the other needs. Ana needs to be awakened from her paralyzed life and realize that she has never truly lived. Neither of them trusts the other completely, but then again neither of them trusts themselves completely. This was an interesting story of personal growth and the idea that it takes the right person to break down the barriers that took a lifetime to create Although the action and mystery takes a while to unfold, this was a sweet love story about not only two people learning to love each other, but also themselves. A highly recommended book if you enjoy books on self -discovery.
