Aunt Cora's Closet is Lily's vintage clothes store in San Francisco. It's a place for common people, witches and such to snoop -- entered into Lily's haven. Her witchy talent brought her into contact with a police inspector named Carlos Romero. She aids him in interventions in cases that seemed to be a little out of his normal everyday world. In this case, superstitions were mocked which ended in murder.

Juliet Blackwell wrote Hexes and Hemlines in a way that gives us a better than general idea as to how the witch's domain is interspersed with the everyday world. She beautifully mixed in different witches from around the world as well as goblins, voodoo practioners, gypsies and such. She nicely displays the characters' flaws and qualities to the point that you don't know who you like and don't like. All the time though I was thinking -- okay, then is that person really a good person? Or will that person turn around and do something unexpected? It kept me on my toes.

Even though there are diverse men in her entourage, there are no sexual acts besides a kiss. However, there are several instances where you get the impression there could be more between certain characters. Anyone who is interested in such a book can read it without being intimidated sexually.

I really loved the insights into Lily's everyday witchery ways and how Juliet Blackwell incorporated the five senses. The author gave me the impression that I was actually there among the mass that entered her life as Lily went about her business. In my book, this is a must read. If ever I ran out of books to read, this one would be among the ones I would pick up and read over and over again.
