Micah Yardley travels to Wroxham, Massachusetts to meet his idol, a poet named Jefferson Dering. Micah is a naive young man who's never even been kissed, knows little about love or sex, so believes the things he feels are friendship and adoration. Jefferson is more knowledgeable about things of the heart, tries to keep from showing his attraction to Micah, afraid the man he adores will suffer the same consequences he once lived through.

The writing duo known as Jamie Craig has written a powerful and timeless story of the perils of two men who find a relationship in a society that doesn’t accept them. Their characters are exceptionally well done, showing the lengths each will go to in protecting the other. The author uses an excellent blend of each person’s first hand account of their feelings and actions. Their letters that follow the initial overt act of love are a chronology of their growing admission of how they both feel.

The author adds a subpart to the story that interlaces throughout. The tale of the spirit of Reverend Joseph Mather, a traveling preacher who helped build the church in Wroxham adds much to the theme of the book.

Actions and reactions from family members, the people of Wroxham and the staff of Harvard are much what we’d expect from this day and time of horse, buggy and narrow minded society.

Jamie Craig has used dialect of the times and excellent characterizations to make this story seem reality based. The way this pair of authors puts this tale together holds my interest from first page to last.
