| What if Jane Austen didn't really write the whole story in Pride and Prejudice? In fact, what if her story is actually a seriously watered down version of events? In Ms. Szereto's satirical version of the classic, she takes the much loved characters and throws them in a world filled with a multitude of sexual foibles and intrigue.
I was very excited to get this book to review. Pride and Prejudice is a book that I have enjoyed reading many times, and I really liked the concept of a livened up version. The author did a good job of giving each of the story's characters their own sexual proclivities and keeping those throughout the book. And I found it highly amusing at first. However, I think the book almost had too much sex. I know what you're thinking. Can there be too much sex? But I really think I would have enjoyed the book more if there had been moments where the characters reverted back to their original temperaments and then the erotic moments. One of the few characters who did this was Mr. Bennet. I found him to be one of the ones I liked the most. There were even points that I found myself skimming over parts and losing interest. So although I was really hoping that I would love this story, I just didn't. The concept was a lot of fun, but the execution of it just wasn't what I was expecting. It might have worked if it was a shorter story but it just wasn't sustainable in a 200+ page book. In fact, oddly ,my one big complaint was that Ms. Szereto almost went overboard in spicing up the story and in the end, it felt like she lost the essence of the original.
