| ER nurse Kelly Donovan is thinking about food when she arrives at her childhood home for her sister’s Mexican summer party. What she finds is a feast dressed in a firefighter’s uniform. Nick Barrantes is tall, gorgeous, and hotter than a jalapeno in August. During a game of hide and seek, Kelly snags the grand prize when she finds Nick in the same hiding place. The result is three-alarm heat. When the passion is cooled by the evening breeze and a cold beer, however, Kelly wonders if her heart will be left in the cinders.
In the first few sentences, Kelly became as real to me as many of the nurses I have known in my own career. Her sharp wit, brutal honesty, and cynical attitude were delightful and refreshing. Nick is clearly drawn through Kelly’s eyes, and the sexual tension between them is immediate and scorching. The dialogue is quick-paced and realistic with a very funny intermingling of conversation and sex. The plot develops quickly, flows seamlessly, and I was pulled along with them as their tension reached the ignition point. The quick pace and humor of this tale made it mesmerizing. Be forewarned though, multiple sex scenes are hot and explicit. If that’s what you’re looking for, I would highly recommend this book. My only regret was that it was over too soon. I hope the author will write about these characters again so we can see more of this hot couple.
