| In 1410, Latharn MacKay was considered Scotland's most eligible Highlander. He had his pick among the fair lasses, and Latharn was not one to turn down an invitation. The story begins when Latharn picks the wrong one. After bedding and quickly leaving an evil sorceress, he is cursed to live eternally encased in a crystal ball until his one true love finds and releases him from the curse.
Nessa Buchanan is nobody's definition of a fair maiden. The tiny archeologist always seems to fade into the background, and she is resigned to spending her life alone. Nessa is not completely alone, however. She has a dream lover, a fierce and sexy highland warrior who has made regular appearances in her dreams since she was eighteen years old. Her dream lover never speaks, but he does manage to convey his desire for her in a myriad of pleasurable ways. Beyond a Highland Whisper tells the story of these two characters and their battle to overcome time and dark magic in order to find each other in this lovely modern day fairytale. Maeve Greyson has done a wonderful job of updating the fairy tale with this book. This time it's the hero who needs rescuing. Nessa is an outstanding example of a strong female who is more than up for the job. She is smart, independent and even though she's had some hard knocks in her life, she refuses to buckle under and meets her challenges head on. Nessa has created a fulfilling and well balanced life for herself and though she is quite comfortable with her sexuality, she doesn't feel the desperate need to tie herself to a man in order to make herself complete. I think Nessa could be one of my favorite heroines of all times. In fact, if I ever grow up, I want to be Nessa. Of course, the fact that she gets nightly visits from Latharn doesn't hurt. Who wouldn't love a deliciously sexy and kilted highlander, who's only desire is to make you happy? Plus he doesn't talk back….can you say JACKPOT? Without being overly graphic the sexual and emotional components between the characters is off the charts. In the prologue of this book, I was already tearing up. The author can really work a reader's heartstrings. This book is funny, poignant, and seriously hot. The only thing this book wasn't is long enough. I literally flew through this book. I fervently hope she makes this a series.
