Miss Mia Stanley, was a young woman born into affluence; she believed that her calling in life was to right the wrongs committed against women and children who were families of the seaman in Philadelphia in 1852. Mia, against the wishes of her parents and her best friend, Garrett Wilson, wrote for a news magazine called Godey’s Lady’s Book. The entire situation was controversial to her parents and their friends, but she had gotten too involved to simply forget her concerns when her parents forced her to quit working for them.

Until this time in her life, her greatest calling seemed to be matchmaking. Her two sisters and several friends had benefited from this talent. However, no matter how hard she tried, she could not get Garrett interested in anyone. Her determination only faltered after she realized that she was, herself, in love with him. She still balked when Garrett constantly followed her trying to keep her safe during her escapades to help the poverty-stricken woman who lived near the docks.

Ms. Tracie Peterson, a well-known, fantastic author, has again created a beautifully successful novel about commitment to God and mankind. She has introduced her new series, Ladies of Liberty, with this first book which introduced a charming, loving family relationship which had stood the test of time. The characters, from the servants to the parents, were well rounded and quite likeable. Ms. Peterson’s expertise in creating, and expanding, an interesting inspirational story is truly at its best in this book!

We become involved with shady characters, such as Jasper Barrill, who single-handedly created these problems and oppressed the women and children through many dangerous actions, and find that, unknowingly, it is possible for good people to be involved with bad! We are also introduced to many of the women who turned to Mia for help; their personalities are expounded and, while we readers worried about them, we also felt compassion such as Mia showed.

Tracie Peterson has again produced a winner; you will be thrilled to read it. I recommend it highly and cannot wait for the others in the series!
