| After losing a friend in an accident five years ago, Sara insists Marlyn and Elsie go hiking with her again. Thinking this trip might be therapy they agree. In no time, Marlyn and Elsie find they are running for their lives from Randall, Sara's husband. Not only has Randall stolen a million from a casino, Sara has stolen it from him. When Randall finds out the tables have been turned he decides he will do anything, even kill anyone who gets in his way.
When Randall cancels his hunting trip and releases Muir from his contract, Muir does not like the lame excuse Randall gives him. Deciding to track Randall, he teams up with Marlyn to stop the insane man. With the help of old tribal ancestors, can they stop Randall before it is too late? Marlyn certainly hopes so because after five years she no longer wishes to keep her distance from Muir. High Risk is loaded in non-stop action and suspense. The plot is fast-paced and the writing intensifies with each turn of the page. The story is loaded in deceit, betrayal and courage as Muri and Marlyn fight to put a halt to Randall and his wicked ways. None of them can believe that Randall has no conscience to kill people without a moment’s thought. I liked the way Ms. Toombs played the expressions of Sara showing her fear and desperation one minute then her darker side the next. Ms. Toombs has written a dripping tale of greed and lechery with twists and turns that have you guessing till the end. Kudos for Ms. Toombs mentioning the Miwok Native Americans and telling a little about their history in the story. She gives you an understanding of ancestors and the stories handed down, thus making the characters very believable as she sketches it into this story line. High Risk is spellbinding. Ms. Toombs has taken pen to paper and created a chiller of a ride that ranks high on my list. * There is a rape scene in the story that should be taken into consideration if the reader is objectionable to it.
