| Garrett Webb is working a second job driving a big delivery truck at night. During the day, he works with computers which he hopes to expand into his own business soon. On one of his runs, he meets Oliver Sanderson, owner of the Downshift Diner. Both men are drawn to each other, the attraction strong. Both are also very cautious of starting anything serious. When Garrett routinely visits the diner, the two become friends with benefits. Neither expecting
more than that until one moment changes everything.
A nice romance with two very likeable characters. The beginning drew me in because I wasn't sure where the author was leading but I was following. I liked the realistic feel to this story. It's an honest portrayal of hard working men making their way in life, just like men we know in our own lives. When love catches them unaware, their reaction to it is the crux of the story. The build up to them becoming more than friends is quick but it makes sense. The author has written some interesting secondary characters, from Murphy the diner cook to Garret's slimy ex. They really support the overall story and keep it edgy and engaging. The sex scenes are good and steamy, these two really like each other. An unforeseen occurrence adds to the drama and kicks it up a notch. Highway Nights is a nicely paced story with a satisfying ending. I liked it a lot.
