| Marco Valente stops to give a stranded motorist a hand one night on a lonely road and accepts a proposition to play her boyfriend for a weekend getaway on a tropical island. Marco is almost identical to the description of the non existent lover Carly Mason has described to her friends. The weekend becomes a magic getaway for the two overworked executives but can they carry what they have back to their everyday lives?
Jane Beckenham has given us a relationship between two people that seems doomed from the start. The main characters are high powered executives who build a fantasy that comes crashing down when they have to return to the everyday world. Life hasn't prepared them for the realities of a relationship. Both are the product of broken homes. Both live for their work. They can get through the intricacies of big business but flounder when confronted with the pitfalls of love. They can sway a board of directors but can't seem to communicate their feelings except through sex. Seems no matter how much money or power anyone has, love is still hard work! The author does a great job building a high stakes romance we can relate to.
