| Jasper Reed is one of the few male prostitutes at Madame Delacroix's. He's been a working boy for ten years and is beyond ready to retire. He hasn't because he's in love with Nathaniel Travers, a regular client. The problem is that Nathaniel is in love with his best friend, Peter Edmonton, and Jasper has spent the last five years listening to Nate bemoan his unrequited love.
Can you say angsty? While angsty may not be an actual word it's the best way to describe His Client. This is a story of a boy who falls for another boy who believes himself to be in love with another. It's not until Nate has to spend time with the "other woman" that he realizes his true feelings. Unlike his situation with Peter, he has no trouble knowing what he has to do once the truth smacks him in the face. I appreciated the role reversals that occurred with Nate and Jasper. Inside Delacroix's, Jasper was strong and self-confident while Nate was full of self doubt. Once Jasper left the world that he'd known for so long, he doubted himself and his ability to be a "gentleman." Compare that to Jasper listening to Nate doubt himself in business and in love for five years only to be confronted by a determined and dominate man. I absolutely loved the transformation that Nate made. To be honest, I found him to be whiny and slightly simpering before Catherine helped open his eyes. His Client is an angst filled yet sweet tale that I thoroughly enjoyed. This is the first book by Ava March that I've read and I will definitely be reading more of her work.
