| Darius feels so out of place in society after the war that he can scarcely function. The war he was in has ravaged his emotions to the point that he is angry at everything, and always feels like he is on the verge of exploding. When he sees a woman across the room, he feels something he hasn’t felt in a long time… something other than anger. Then he finds out that she’s his best friend’s wife… and his friend had never been married.
After this story I finished it felt like I was reading the chapter of a book instead of an entire story. I was disappointed when it ended because it felt rather abrupt after all the difficulties they both had faced, and I thought that there should be more to the story. I loved both characters though; Darius was a tortured being who needed to be brought back to the land of the living. Claire had a difficult time in her life too, and both of them had the passion and feelings for each other even though they were in together a very short period of time. Sierra Dafoe manages to make you feel like this couple really connected during their interlude and the passion was definitely on fire. There is a bit of rough sex and name calling, so don’t be too shocked when you see it. I had to suspend my disbelief that a sheltered, naive virgin would allow such risqué sex in the space of a couple of hours, but once I did that the story really worked and had me captivated until it was over. His For The Taking is a fantastic story that will leave you wanting more, I can’t wait to see what is next from this wonderful author.
