The Marquis of Rutledge is tired of his mother and every other woman looking to get him married. Damien comes up with the idea of a make believe fiancée. He tells his mother that he has met a woman and has become betrothed hoping that she will leave him alone about getting married. He eventually plans to say that the woman had a change of mind. He picked a name of Hinglebottom for his betrothed, believing that no one could possibly have such a ridiculous name. Unfortunate for him there is indeed a woman by that name and she is available. Unwilling to admit he lied he has to convince Bethany Hinglebottom that he is looking at her to become engaged. Bethany left London after a miserable season. Being accident prone it seemed she was always the center of attention for her misfortune. She had hoped never to be place in the situation to be made fun of again. Now She meets a handsome man that wants to marry her but she must once again become part of London’s society.

Jodici Belle has written a creatively amusing and romantic story set in regency England. Her characters are colorful and fully developed so that the reader gets to know their personalities and appearance. The dialogue is well written and flows smoothly accurately conveying the thoughts and emotions of the characters. Damian is a man that enjoys women but does not plan to settle down anytime soon. He is always coming up with plans that seem to backfire on him. He is heavily sought after for his title, wealth and good looks. No one sees the man he is or cares about the real person. Bethany is an average looking woman with brains. She has had some bad experiences in her life and seems accident- prone. She is vulnerable to the opinions of others. She is sweet and loving and it is feared from the beginning she will be hurt if she finds out the truth. The chemistry between the two main characters seems to be beyond their control and they are drawn together. Damian fights the sensual pull he feels for Bethany. Bethany tries to seduce Damian but somehow always clumsily botches her attempts. Things turn out right in the end between them but it is an adventure filled with mishaps and misunderstandings. Jodici Bell’s, His Unexpected Bride, is a passionately amusing romance filled with action and adventure sure to appeal to many readers.
