| Brad McTavish runs the BDSM dungeon, Roped and Lassoed. He is a man who loves sexual thrills but lately, he is feeling bored with the BDSM scene. The only thing that can get his heart pumping is his weekly meetings with Keely, the sub who cannot get enough of his touch. Except, Brad wants more. He wants a permanent relationship with Keely. He is falling in love, while Keely seems miles away from love.
Keely may lust after Brad, may crave his touch, but she cannot allow it to become more. Keely has seen her mother become the victim in a BDSM relationship and she does not want that to happen to herself. The more Brad pushes for a closer relationship, the more Keely pulls away, until she is forced into close confines with Brad during a dangerous blizzard. Will she finally see that beneath his Dom façade lurks a tender heart that just wants her? Unfortunately, Hitched was a rather unsatisfying reading experience. While Brad was certainly a rather sexy man, I never truly felt the connection between Keely and Brad was true. Keely had her reasons for not wanting to be part of a serious relationship, but give her just a small window of time, and she readily changes her mind. I had a hard time believing she could get over her fears that easily when she had been professing to Brad for some time that there was no way she wanted to be part of a Dom/sub relationship. It also seemed that through much of this story, Jacobs used the D/s relationship more for the shock factor than as an intrinsic part of the plot. It was almost like she wanted to shock readers at times, and it was not in a good way. I have read and enjoyed several Ann Jacobs stories in the past but Hitched definitely was a letdown. Characterization was weak, there was a strong disconnect between the two protagonists, and the actions of the characters seemed out of sync with how they were being portrayed. Not one of her best stories but there are some glimpses of characters from the first book in the series that may be worth reading about.
