| Topnotch racecar driver Wesley Webb shared a childhood friendship and teenage romance with Caitlin Daniels. It ended ten years ago with the death of Wesley’s mother, an event they each feel guilty about.
Now Caitlin is a journalist, assigned to get a story from Wesley. The feelings are still there, though each has tried to move on. Driver Peppy John forces Wesley’s car into a dangerous rollover and beats the field to the finish line of a major race. Wesley is steamed. And within hours, Peppy is dead. Another murder follows, and the reasons are convoluted and unusual. Caitlin’s boss Bailey Rogers and her friend Rayma both have secrets in their pasts. The killer’s identity is carefully hidden until the end, though clues are scattered early on. The conclusion sports both tension and danger. This is an interesting tale of guilt, identity and twisted motives. Caitlin’s magazine job could be detailed more, as could the racecar scene. But the romantic aspects are strong and believable.
