Special Agent Aaron Pearce is about to find out what February is like in Detroit and he isn’t happy about it. Nor is he happy about the assignment that brings him there. Being Mark Beecher’s personal bodyguard isn’t exactly is dream job. When Special Agent Pearce finally meets the only witness to a terrorist plot, there's definitely an attraction. Pearce must keep Mark alive until the trial. The only problem is someone tries to kill Mark while still in the FBI building and Pearce realizes they are on their own. And the only place to go is Mark’s ex-boyfriend's apartment.

Holed Up is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Who doesn’t love a good story with witty dialog and likable characters that seem real long after the final page is read? The first introduction of Pearce automatically draws the reader to him. He comes off as a strong, no-holding-back guy who doesn’t take spit from anyone. Then he meets Mark Beecher and Pearce seems to grow throughout the story. Okay, so maybe he isn’t that much more sensitive after meeting Mark but his character does change in other ways. And the great thing is that both characters are likable all the way through to the end. Holed Up seems to have it all -- romance, suspense, comedy. The bad guys may not rear their ugly heads at every turn but they do make their appearance throughout the story in more subtle ways, ways that are very clever on Mr. Edwards part. He ties everything in very nicely so that the story revolves around the two main characters but still the story doesn’t come off as overly character driven. And the dialog is so good it makes you laugh out loud at times. This may be my first experience reading Hank Edwards work but it certainly will not be my last.
