Federica Henrietta Mansion is an executive with a multinational conglomerate, Mansion Enterprises, which owns hotels all over the world. The company is owned by her Uncle Frederick, her only living relative. She has been working 12 hour days for the past 8 years when she is sent to Carson's Bluff, California to acquire some property known as "Harry's Folly". When she arrives, she collapses due to exhaustion and too much stress from work. She had not been home for 8 weeks. She is taken in by the local mayor and sheriff, Jack Sutter, while she rests and recovers. Carson's Bluff is somewhat of a sanctuary where people are happily living stress-free lives. The town intends to keep it that way. Federica has a complication.

If Mansion Enterprises comes to Carson's Bluff, its way of life will be forever changed. It's Federica's job assignment to acquire the land for the company. The town is completely resistant to this happening. Jack Sutter is the person leading the resistance. When Federica and Jack start spending time together, an immediate intense attraction develops to complicate things. Will they explore the relationship or will the reason for Federica's being in Carson's Bluff destroy any chance of their happiness?

The story of Federica and Jack is a beautifully written love story. There are many obstacles in their way but they work as a team to seek out a resolution together. It becomes complicated as they are doing this but it makes for a fascinating story. There are some wonderful supporting characters who really contribute to the fullness of Federica and Jack's story. They are Ellen Larsen, Federica's best friend, Wyatt Sutter, Jack's brother, Lilly Langtry Sutter Wright, Jack's sister, Norman Wright, Lilly's husband, Horace Milton, the oldest resident of Carson's Bluff, Doc Alonzo Garcia y Fernandez, who took care of Federica when she was so very ill, and Erle Newton, Newton, Federica's protective driver who became a chef while in Carson's Bluff and very good friends with all the Sutters. This story is a very rich one and a delight to read and become acquainted with all the characters, especially Federica and Jack. I look forward to reading other books by Ms. Jennings. I recommend it to everyone.
