| Reesa has relied on herself for as long as she can remember. The product of a difficult childhood, she keeps people at arm's length to protect her heart. When a serendipitous moment introduces her to Micah, Reesa finds a job and the love of her life. She must decide if she can overcome the fear of getting close that destroyed her previous relationships.
As the narrative develops, we really get to know Reesa and Micah. She's a bit selfish and a bit of a pushover. Though she says she gives second chances but never thirds, I can't see her ending her sometimes toxic friendship with Berni, her often drunk friend. Micah is patient and caring. He doesn't push Reesa to commit more than she wants, but he doesn't go away either. He's a bit awkward with words, which makes him completely lovable and human, but his heart is gold. Their Home Port is a very touching story. The characters are real. They're visceral and messy. They fight to get their happy ending in a way that leaves us confident they're a forever kind of couple. Ms. Colcroft has crafted a wonderfully moving love story that makes me want to feel the wind in my hair as I sit on the beach and devour another of her novels.
