| Katie Edwards is a young twenty-something urbanite who is enjoying life to its fullest. However, when her offensive boss goes too far, Katie decides that it's time to make some changes in her life. When she answers an advertisement for a personal assistant, she never imagined that her boss, Liam Kennedy, would make her want to make things very personal.
I had to read this book in bits and spurts as the heroine, Katie, was too irritating. This book was written in first person and reminded of Bridget Jones' Diary but not as engaging or developed. Katie was a very conceited, shallow and boring young woman at the beginning of the book. After a change in scenery, she develops into a slightly more interesting character. However, her changes appear to occur after she falls in love at first sight with Liam Kennedy. I don't like books where one or both of the characters fall in love at first sight as the story generally lacks substantial character development. In this story, the emotional development is all from Katie's point of view and her love interest, Liam, is at times only a peripheral character to Katie's lovelorn theatrics. Liam is not developed at all. That is not to say that he is not part of the story but rather nothing is given from his point of view. While that may be realistic, I do not read fiction for realism and found this disappointing. I would have appreciated knowing more about him and why he behaved as he did. I did not get the impression that they actually knew each other well enough to love each other. I will grant that the epilogue was exceptionally well done and very tender. I just wish the rest of the book was reflective of the epilogue.
