Twenty-six year old Tess Laurent is convinced that she is losing her mind when hungering for a man she does not know…one that haunts her dreams, leaving her aching for his touch and never finding sexual release. For all she knows he could have been a figment of her imagination. She looks out the window of her elaborate cage in a mansion owned by Challacor Montgomery, who was not her uncle but claimed her and her sister, Emily, since the death of her parents in a car accident-- an accident Tess was sure that he had planned. It has been fifteen years of living with a monster and his guards, of never being allowed to leave, since Montgomery was so obsessed with keeping them virgins. There was something to do with unicorns that was the key to making his diseased old body young and healthy. As if unicorns existed! Now Tess had been told that the location of the unicorn had been found and Montgomery planned while the unicorn thrust into her, taking her virginity, he would take both of their lives. What would then happen to Emily? Tess earnestly began making plans to escape.

Zarnak made one mistake while trying to rescue his fellow Sidhe Warriors from battle--he killed one of The Blood Goddess's dragons without permission. Never mind that it was self-defense. Because he planted his sword in the dragon's head he had been cursed to become a unicorn! Now he is tormented with streaking across the land to visit Tess Laurent in his mind. There they take comfort in each other but it is not enough, his body needs release! Grador, the big golden werewolf, has brought Tess to Wickett Wood, a place humans can never locate, as it is hidden by magic, in order for him to shed his unicorn form and become a man warrior again. But as he moves between Tess's legs to pierce her virginity, he hesitates, knowing that he will be the one to cause her pain. He steps back from her, as he loves her too much. Maybe it is best for him to remain a sought after unicorn throughout eternity than to inflict pain on the love of his heart!

Wow! I have never seen the battle for good and evil with denied love like this before. Ms Byrd creates a mystical tale of love that lasted for years in her novel: The Horn of the Unicorn. This book is so compelling that you can not help but grasp the love of Tess and Zarnak who only know each other within their dreams! Their love is overpowering and leaves each unfilled sexually, as they heighten each other in dreams but never find release.
