| Alexander the Great has been reborn as Alex Megas, a silver tongued diplomat soon to unite the world, and then destroy it. His best friend and lover Heston has been at his side for over two thousand years of life, death and purgatory. Madeea is an empath, drawn to the pair as if they are her destiny.
The background to the story drags for me. It was hard to get through it but, after I did it was a great ménage-a-trois love story. The tale is unique, bringing back Alexander and Heston from purgatory to unite the world then destroy it to cleanse it and start over. I’m glad both men hesitate to do the deed but they’re honorable men with promises to keep. Madeea’s character seems a little wimpy but she proves her worth in the end. In much of the tale she’s shown as depressed, a street person, working only to avoid going crazy from the cacophony of voices and thoughts surrounding her. In contrast is Alexander the Great and his lover, both powerful men. I think Ms. Karland must have had her tongue firmly in her cheek writing this tale. It’s such a subtle way of showing that no matter how weak a woman may look, the toughest guys in the world still need her to fulfill their destiny!
