| Erica Parkhurst and Paula Bascilla own the Spirit Lake Inn. The inn is inhabited by many spirits including an evil being in the basement. The story begins with Paula and her boyfriend Cal expecting a child. Erica and Joe are engaged and are planning their wedding next June. A former guest, Raymond, is overhauling the garden. He is planting flowers, putting in a gazebo and a fountain. Everything seems peaceful for a change. Suddenly tragedy strikes Paula and Cal, and her past reaches out to grab her. Plus skeletons are discovered in the garden. The peaceful inn is no more.
I think if I owned an inn with a evil entity in the basement I would pack up and leave town. The plot holds many secrets and surreptitious activities. You become enmeshed in the story and rarely come up for air. One character, Raymond, drove me batty. If he said Dear Lady one more time, I would have erased him from the story. Otherwise everyone else was strong and played their part well. Of course being a animal lover, Mingo, part wolf and part dog, was my favorite character. He had a personality all his own. I'm looking forward to book five in the Spirit Lake series.
