| Charged with the death of her son, and sentenced to life, without having time to grieve, Beth Shaw found herself on a ship traveling to the prison planet. Them boom, the ship crashed, splitting in two. Unbelievably, she survived with just minor bruises. But that was just the beginning of the nightmare that was to follow.
Hungry planet is very well named. Every conceivable thing that could have happened, did. It was survival of the fittest. Beth was glad for Magnus' help although frankly, he was a total ass and a very dangerous one. She had no choice except to depend on him. Caught up in survival mode, hers was a minute by minute case situation. Beth will come to learn more about herself and her worth. She will have to look for and pull that inner strength up from the hidden places within herself. Despite the heartache and pain she will have to face, she will, and that’s what I admired about her. Magnus, after having spent seven years on that planet, learned to survive the only way he knew which made him crude and arrogant. But he was Beth’s crag against the storm, storms that both of them had to face everyday. And between them, eventually they found a way out to make a life for themselves. Hungry planet is a story filled with heartache, lessons on survival, human nature, and caring for someone. A good science fiction story, but with an ending I was a little disappointed in. After reading what the characters had been through I thought the ending could have been different.
