| Archer is friends with Vivian but he would like to be more than a friend. After he witnessed an incident when he was younger involving Vivian, he made it his mission to protect her. And he does this by removing (killing) people who hurt or have hurt her. But all that changes when he meets Evan.
The first thing I have to say is that this book blew me away. I never expected to like a character as much as I liked Archer. He is a main character, different from the norm and his actions are condemnable but still he did not cease to be a sympathetic character. Even though I know what he is capable of, I could not help but cheer for him to have a happy ending. As the blurb makes clear, Archer is a murderer. He may have a reason to take the lives of his victims but that did not justify his actions nor change what he is. He is not very social (the only friends that he has are Vivian's friends). His friendship with Vivian is almost unhealthy. Vivian sucked out of Archer all the love she needs without giving anything in return and Archer does everything in his power to save Vivian from herself. He goes so far as to kill for her. This vicious cycle is interrupted by Evan who makes Archer see the situation as it is. Evan is the light at the end of the tunnel for Archer. He can see Archer's qualities and although he was aware of what Archer did, he still fights for him. Hushed is a captivating story and worth reading. It is a book that stays with you even after you read it.
