| When New York Blades Defenseman Adam Perry is charged with assault after a hard but legal hit during a game versus Philadelphia, the team hires the best attorney they can find; Sinead O'Brien. Sinead is an intense workaholic who knows nothing about hockey and Adam is an incredibly private person who is reluctant to reveal anything about himself, even if it will save his career. But the Blades have a shot at his dream, the Stanley Cup, so he will have to overcome his reluctance and Sinead will find that he is more that the good looking but useless jock she first thinks him.
Ms. Martin's stories about the New York Blades are always entertaining reads and the unlikely pair starring in this story quickly grabbed my interest. They are very much alike in many ways; intense, hardworking, and focused, and because of this an unlikely pairing. The chemistry between them overcomes this and I soon wanted them together despite the odds against the relationship working. This story blends two very popular series, the Blades and the Wild Hart, bringing back favorite characters from both and introducing a few that I hope to see again. The subplots of Sinead's friend Oliver's problems with alcohol and Adam's best friend and his elder brother's struggles tell us a bit more about the two main characters as well as adding depth to the plot. The author's obvious love of hockey and New York shine through this intelligently written romance and the even the reader who knows nothing about either will learn a little and laugh a lot while reading an excellent romance.
