Walking into Wichita's Scarlet Lady saloon, gunslinger Rafe Conley is startled when a woman comes hurtling through space to land with her ruffled bustle on his creased cowboy boots. Using his formidable reputation as a freelance gun, Rafe is able to get Sparkle LaFleur's job back as a fortuneteller. Later Rafe comes to Sparkle's rescue again by posing as her husband one afternoon to get rid of an annoying gentleman. When Rafe agrees to the hoax neither of them imagine that it will take on a life of its own in which everyone in town would believe Sparkle is now Mrs. Conley.

Rafe never pictured himself settling down. Although believing that a bullet would take his life sooner rather than latter did not bother Rafe as long as he would be able to revenge the death of his uncle before his own.

Sparkle had her own dreams and ambitions that did not involve a dangerous vagabond like Rafe. Working in saloons to support her invalid brother, Jace, Sparkle dreamt of the day Jace would regain his memory and she could marry the man she had loved all her life.

Despite the attraction and love Rafe and Sparkle develop they are caught up in a vicious cycle of violence, betrayal, and retribution. Will Rafe and Sparkle defeat the demons of the past and summon the courage to build a future together?

Powerful and sensual Impassioned Vagabond is a romance that delivers. Ms. Biondine has created remarkable, real characters with a terrific hero and heroine and delightful secondary characters. Rafe and Sparkle's poignant romance with all their fears and insecurities moved me as they struggled to make their relationship work. The authentic background of trailhead saloons and gunslingers helps bring the book to life. This is a beautifully written novel to savor and return to again and again and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves westerns, historicals, or great love stories.
