| Candace and James Baker Russell have been married for twenty five years. As their anniversary approaches, Candace reflects on their marriage and their lives together. Although far from perfect, their relationship is rock solid and their love for each other has only grown stronger with the years. And their sex life, the topic of conversation for many of their friends and family, (much to Candy’s frustration) is great!
I loved this book. Ms. Leatherwood has a very distinctive and unique voice. Her ability to describe feelings and sensations is fabulous. By the end of the book, I really felt like I knew Candace and JB both, as though they were good friends of mine. The secondary characters are well developed also, and the interaction between them all serves to bring Candy and JB’s marriage further into focus. The comparison between their relationship, and those of their friends, while in no way overt, manages to point out the joy and love these two experience in their marriage. The dialogue is witty and intelligent, and each character has a distinct voice. And let me tell you - the sex is hot! This couple has not let the fire burn out, that’s obvious. Ms. Leatherwood is a master at writing sensual, heated, fierce love scenes - and she is able to maintain the sexual tension throughout. I found myself feeling deeply for these characters as they overcame some very significant obstacles, and came through stronger and closer to each other. They were faced with personal challenges, and things that as a couple could be very hard to work through, but they never gave up on each other. They were totally committed to each other, it was so obvious, and I loved that about them. I found it so refreshing to be able to read a book about a couple that had been together for twenty five years. Ms. Leatherwood just did such a fabulous job with it. An absolutely beautiful love story!
