| What an amazing story! I haven't ever read anything by this author before. I do, however, plan to remedy that oversight as soon as possible. This is the sequel to another of her books, No Other, which I have not read. However, even though I know what it's about, it didn't distract from enjoying this offering.
This book took place in the March 1949 timeframe. Meri Wilheimer had been married to Jakob for about ten years. They had twin boys which were born less than nine months after their marriage. This had caused problems for family and hometown people through it all. For this reason, when they left for Hollywood, California, they didn't return to their hometown of Porto Delamar for ten years. Jakob had moved his entire family, which now included a daughter, Rachel (aged 8), to allow Meri to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. She was signed with Majestic Studio shortly after coming to town. Jakob left his life's work, architecture, to pursue Meri's career. Majestic paid for his accelerated education so he wouldn't feel inferior to his famous wife. He became a name to reckon with in Hollywood. He was currently a big name in town for his abilities in building/designing the newest areas of the outlying areas of Hollywood. He got along with everyone except Sally, Meri's agent. They had no life together as a family so he planned to take his entire family back home for a two-week vacation. Ms. Williams has written a story in such a way as I've not seen before in inspirational romance. I say that to mean that this book is an essential spreading of the Word of God. Never have I read a book that covered and printed such in-depth scriptural reading. It was intense and sometimes a little hard to listen to. These characters had once been committed to God; they now had strayed. These two main characters (Meri and Jakob) were exceptionally loving, but lost in the shuffle. I highly recommend this book. It is a great way to learn the way God intervenes and interacts in romance.
