Ivy loves the theatre. One night, she went with her friend Rosa to see a production of McBeth, and was spell bound by one of the actors. He was dressed in black, his voice was like velvet, and Ivy is instantly fascinated. His voice hypnotizes, and his looks turn her on. Jacob loves acting. When he looks out into the audience and notices Ivy, she fascinates him. She's beautiful and sexy, and he wants to get to know her. He knows she is a vampire, and that is part of the fascination. He knows, because is was once a member of a secret society sworn to hunt them down and kill every last one…

In Black started out with a lot of energy and really grabbed my attention. This book is part of a series called Ancient Blood that Kate Hill has written. I don't feel that you have to read the rest of the series to enjoy this book, although I have. One of the things I like the most about Kate Hills vampires is that they are made to seem more human than monsters. It shows when Ivy has an instant attraction to Jacob, and doesn't really understand why. She tries to rationalize it, just like a human would. Jacob is a strong person, and knows exactly what he is doing. The two people in this book felt like they should be together, and the sex was really hot. I liked the longer books better, particularly Blood Red, so if you like this book, you will definitely like the rest of the series.
